Catalogue of the exhibition organized by the City Council of Cádiz (Castillo de Santa Catalina) within the Año Gran, the first project that the Enrique Gran Foundation tackles on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of his death.

UNIVERSE GRAN

It is difficult to escape from affection when one contemplates the work of a painter from the inheritance and knowledge of everyday life.
In the case of Enrique Gran, who spoke, felt and lived as he painted, it is an added privilege to enter into his painting with that “extra” of information that allows one to find in each painting the door to an authentic parallel universe.

Colour, light, atmosphere,…, conspire in an unusual harmony creating snapshots of the timeless, where serenity “almost hurts”, allowing the experienced viewer to step out of the Ego for a moment and get closer to it.
The work of Enrique Gran, considered one of the most brilliant and personal contributions to Spanish painting of the 20th century, lived with his back to the conveniences and currents of his time, as did the great names of history.

His creative universe is for many of us who admire and believe we understand his painting, a parenthesis to abandon ourselves to sensations, to the vertigo of the timeless, to what could have been, or perhaps is.
