BEGOÑA MERINO GRAN FROM SANTANDER IS THE NEW VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE TITANIC FOUNDATION.
Before Mr. Francisco J. Cedrón López-Guerrero, notary of Madrid, on September 27, 2021, the public notification of the appointment of Begoña Merino Gran as the new vice president of the Titanic Foundation was made.
The new vice-president has been responsible for the art direction of the Titanic Foundation since 2014, as well as the curatorship of the macro exhibition “TITANIC: The Reconstruction”, of which she is co-creator.
Begoña Merino Gran succeeds the prestigious businessman Germán López Madrid, president of ANIACAM and senior advisor of Volvo Car Corporation.
According to Begoña Merino Gran in her appointment before the Board of Trustees, the responsibility even surpasses the honor of belonging to one of the most prestigious entities, at an international level, within the world of culture:
“With an exclusive “honor roll” in which we find H.M. the Queen of England, Barack Obama, Rafael Nadal, Princess Elettra Marconi or Luis del Olmo, …, among others, all of them maximum exponents of “exceptionality”, there is no doubt that what both the life experience and what this position represents in my career as a cultural manager and somehow linking Santander to the world of the Titanic, is undoubtedly exciting.
To be part of a project that is committed to fulfilling the “flagship” values of “the ship of dreams”: “honor and glory above time”, is a task that adds a wonderful extra to the noble mission of keeping alive one of the greatest landmarks of universal history.
Although I have been linked to the art world for many years as president of the Enrique Gran Foundation, there is no doubt that Titanic is another dimension, since it brings together history, legend, art and values.
As I say, being part of the Titanic Foundation is undoubtedly a privilege and even more an enormous responsibility, both for its ambitious foundational purpose and for the entity of those who represent it.
I would like to thank the trust and responsibility that the Titanic Foundation has placed in me, so I am delighted to accept this new challenge with great enthusiasm and motivation”.
Begoña Merino Gran
In this new stage, the Titanic Foundation, with new projects, will work to strengthen even more the relations with public and private institutions, strengthening the development of the foundational purposes.

In the photograph above we see the new vice-president on her visit to the manganese mines of Puras de Villafranca, in Belorado (Burgos), where the manganese used in the construction of the Titanic was extracted and mixed with the steel used to build the hull of the ship, a surprising link between Spain and the history of the Titanic.
