“Las Mujeres de Gran”. Photographic exhibition by Diego Artioli on Enrique Gran’s paintings of women. Central Library of Cantabria (02/02/2015)
As a result of the collaboration between the Government of Cantabria, through its Regional Minister for Culture, and the Enrique Gran Foundation, this multidisciplinary project was conceived from the outset under the specific parameters of a key objective: to give viewers for the first time the chance to get closer to the feminine and recurring world of Enrique Gran.
Gran, a Cantabrian painter and humanist, a reference of the abstraction of the 20th century in Espada, whose image transcended internationally in the media, after starring with the painter Antonio López in the film “El sol del membrillo”, awarded at the Cannes Festival, is presented to us through this exhibition, in its most intimate facet, taking the visitor into his soul, in its roots, in the concerns that WOMEN have raised in their personal and pictorial evolution, transporting it sensibly into their universe, using for this purpose not only their own creations, but the incarnation of the same through the fresh and sublimated vision of reality of Diego Artioli, known professionally as “escapist”.
The fundamental theme of this Italian photographer, emotionally linked to Santander, Gran’s birthplace, revolves almost obsessively around the world of portraiture and on this occasion, giving life in this project to “Las MUJERES de GRAN” as the centre of the exhibition. In this exhibition meeting, we wanted the protagonists of the photographic work to be women who represent a wide range of their presence in society, from the aristocracy to anonymous students, as well as professionals from different sectors.
The creative fusion between two artists from different centuries, from different disciplines, from different cultures, in a single theme, gives the spectator a resounding and suggestive exhibition encounter: ART in CAPITAL LETTERS with a female face.
